Desiree Guzman
I am a Geology PhD student in the Department of Geological Sciences and Engineering at the University of Nevada, Reno. My research utilizes geochemistry to understand how magma is generated in different tectonic settings.
Currently, I serve as a Teaching Assistant for a Igneous/Metamorphic Petrology Lab, where I assist in lab instruction, support students with their coursework, and help manage lab materials and activities to enhance their understanding of igneous/metamorphic rock identification and analysis.
Before pursuing a PhD in Geology, I earned a B.A. in Consumer Affairs and a B.S. in Geology from CSU Long Beach. Prior to graduate school, I gained hands-on research experience as a participant in Stanford’s SURGE program. Earlier in my career, I spent seven years as an office manager and tax preparer, developing strong analytical, organizational, and leadership skills. Since beginning my PhD, I have been awarded multiple scholarships from both the university and the Geologic Society of Nevada in recognition of my research goals.
